Ferrari Club’s Sicily and Tuscan Ferrari Experience

The Ferrari Club of America’s Southeast Region members have the opportunity to participate in a trip to Sicily, Tuscany and Umbria, Italy for an amazing 10-days journey especially prepared for the Ferrari tifosi.

In Sicily, we will explore Greek Temples, culinary specialties of the island, and the resort town of Taormina perched on a cliff overlooking the sea. We fly from Sicily to Rome and begin the Tuscany and Umbria exploration behind the wheel of the latest F-1 Ferraris and cruise the Mille Miglia route while staying in extraordinary hotels and dining in renowned restaurants with a team of highly qualified Ferrari professionals. Each journey is a subtle blend of art, fashion, architecture, culinary and wine delights and spectacular scenery.

This travel will accommodate two groups of 20 each beginning either September 1, 2008 or September 20, 2008

Discover the ancient splendour of the Sicily’s great cities as well as the charm of its smaller, hidden gems. Places of universal renown, but also places whose secrets need to be unveiled. All this plus the thrill of driving Ferrari’s latest range of magnificent sports cars. Luxury, glamour and a long red emotion! After a breathtaking tour of Sicily, we fly to Rome and begin the Ferrari Experience. The “Cavallino”, the venerated prancing horse symbol of Ferrari, will take you on a tour that encompasses all that is the finest in Italian life: breathtaking scenery, wonderful food, and people with an infectious passion for life, it’s hard to imagine a country with more to offer.

Sicily's CoastYou will be part of a real Ferrari team, enjoying the possibility to personally drive the latest Ferraris. Accelerate through the steep, winding roads of Lazio, Umbria and Tuscany, along the route of the legendary Mille Miglia race, putting your driving skills to the ultimate test. The tour manager leads the way in an Alfa Romeo. After a familiarisation briefing the tour begins. Bring as much luggage as you like. It will be transported separately and waiting for you in your hotel room each evening when you arrive. Simply leave your Ferrari outside the hotel entrance. It will be ready the next morning, cleaned and refueled. And all this comes against the back-drop of stunning countryside, where the rolling hills and twisting roads provide a stimulating challenge to drivers. Italia in Ferrari is a prospect that makes eyes widen and the heart beat faster.

  • Day 1 September 6 or September 20, 2008 (Saturday) Palermo - You are greeted at Palermo airport and transferred to your hotel. Late in the afternoon after a brief introduction made by your Tour Director, enjoy a Welcome Dinner at local restaurant (D)
  • Day 2 September 7 or September 21, 2008 (Sunday) Monreale & Palermo - Morning visit to the Duomo of Monreale, masterpiece of the Arab-Norman art. Then to the city major monuments and to the Capo Market, a large street market that captures the flavor of Palermo ’s Saracen past finishing with Piazza Pretoria and Via Maqueda with its “four corners” who converge Palermo at a quartet of baroque palaces left over from the heyday of Spanish rule.   • Day 3 September 8 or September 22, 2008 (Monday) Segesta , Erice, Olive Oil Factory, Salt Way Road - Early departure to tour Segesta with its unfinished hexastyle doric temple of the late 5th century BC, built on a hilltop with a commanding view of the surrounding area. Continue to Erice to wander through its’ ancient streets and visit some of the famous pastry home made shops, world-famous for marzipa. After a light-lunch at an olive farmhouse travel along the Salt Road to tour the historic saltpan works, where the ancient tradition of harvesting salt from the sea is still practiced, before returning to Palermo (BB L)
  • Day 4 September 9 or September 23, 2008 (Tuesday) Sant’Angelo Muxaro & Agrigento - Depart to the country town of Sant’Angelo Muxaro, built on a lonely hill, in the centre of the valley of the river Platani. On arrival meet Donna Concetta who will introduce us to Pizza and Bread preparation with simple light-lunch to taste Sicilian Pizza and Pane Cunsatu, a typical home-make bread with olive oil, pecorino cheese. Afternoon visit to Agrigento’s Valley of Temples. Then continue to Leonforte and Villa Gussio a typical Sicilian old-country hotel. (BB L D)
  • Day 5 September 10 or September 24, 2008 (Wednesday) Piazza Armerina & Caltagirone - Depart to Piazza Armerina to see the ruins of a Roman Villa of Casale. The mosaics discovered here are celebrated among scholars of antiquity. Later travel to the baroque town of Caltagirone know as “the city of ceramics”, before continuing to Taormina, the world famous Sicilian resort. (BB)
  • Day 6 September 11 or September 25, 2008 (Thursday) Taormina - All day long at leisure to own stroll the town or OPTIONAL EXCURSION TO ETNA VOLCANO. Tonight we gather for a Farewell Dinner at local restaurant  (BB D)
  • Day 7 September 12 or September 26, 2008 (Friday) Catania - Time to say goodbye to Sicily as we transfer to Catania Airport for the flight to Rome. At Rome we are met and transfer to the Fonteverde Natural Spa Resort in San Casciano dei Bagni, Tuscany. Check-in with welcome aperitif at the terrace overlooking the breathtaking panorama of the rolling Tuscan hills and time to relax. Evening full Ferrari briefing on how to drive the different Ferrari model with presentation of the full Ferrari range, explanation on the difference between the 8 and 12 cylinder models, and how to use the F1 gearbox paddle shifting (All the Ferrari will be equipped with the new F1 gear box). Each guest will be handed out his personalised car scheduling reporting his driving turn as well as listing the various types of Ferraris and the complementary activities. Dinner at the elegant Fonteverde Ferdinando I Restaurant.  (BB)
  • Day 8 September 13 or September 27, 2008 (Saturday) Discovering of Val D’Orcia in Ferrari - Breakfast at the hotel. Departure by Ferrari on the beautiful roads of the Val d’Orcia along the Mille Miglia route, passing Bagno Vignoni, San Quirico d’Orcia and Montalcino. Our Tour Director leads the convoy guiding the Ferraris along the most exciting hilly and curvy roads carefully studied and chosen for the tour. Arrival in Siena, an unspoiled mediaeval city, world-renowned for its Palio, a horse race around the city’s seashell-like Piazza del Campo. In the afternoon return to Fonteverde along panoramic roads of Val D’Orcia driving through Pienza, Chianciano, Sarteano, San Casciano dei Bagni.
  • Day 9 September 14 or September 28, 2008 (Sunday) Orvieto ( Umbria ) & Rome - Breakfast and checkout. Departure by bus for Orvieto, with full day to visit before continuing to Rome. Arrival and check in at the luxury Hotel Exedra, located in the heart of Rome.
  • Day 10 September 15 or September 29, 2008 (Monday) Arrivederci Italia - After breakfast, checkout and private transfer to Fiumicino airport.
