Visit Assisi, full of the mysticism of St. Francis, then to Etruscan Cortona to visit a little jewel of a city. Finally to Siena with time to visit both the city and the wine areas. The itinerary is a unique blend of hilltop villages and art cities. The roads are very good throughout and distances are limited allowing you to stop and visit along the way to your heart’s content.

Tuscany is the most popular of all Italian destinations while Umbria, known as the “Green Heart” of Italy, is probably what Tuscany was some 30 years ago. Tuscany and Umbria embody everything about the classic ideal Italian landscape with rolling hills covered with vines and olive tree groves, lonely rural roads guarded by stately cypresses and castles and villas loftily dotting the pinnacled countryside. Here you will find the great cities of the Italian Renaissance along with the Mediaeval towns, Roman aqueducts and impressive Etruscan walled cities.

In both regions the land yields and incredible variety of world class quality produce. Here are produced Italy’s finest extra virgin olive oils as well as a profusion of superlative classic and new “Super-Tuscan” wines, of a standard that has placed them for years in the very top of Wine Spectator Magazine selections. These exceptional oils and wines along with the native Chianina cattle, the incredible variety of cured meats and cheeses, the luscious vegetables, the outstanding breads, all have contributed to develop a sophisticated yet rustically refined Central Italian cuisine where luxury foods such as Umbria’s black truffles marry splendidly with simpler, everyday dishes of an exceptional quality.

SELF DRIVE PROGRAMS - Probably, the best way to independently travel in Italy is by self-drive car as it allows you to be mobile at all times, to stop whenever you want, to visit to your heart’s content! A limitless number of itineraries is possible, as you can combine any of the Italian regions and cities to create “your own” program. All self drive example itineraries include car Cat C and hotel accommodation at selected hotels as mentioned (depending on availability at time of request) and have been prepared with a base of 2/3 passengers (other rates are available on request as different type of cars will be needed). Take them as they are, lengthen, shorten, combine them as you desires or just use them for ideas in creating “your itinerary” to discover Italy “as you want”!
