  • Day 1 Puerto Montt - Alerce Mountain Lodge - You will be met at Puerto Montt airport at 09.00 where we will board a Unimog (a vehicle specially adapted for rough terrain) or a 4 wheel drive vehicle which will take us to the 36Km (22 miles) point of the Austral Road from where we will begin our ascent to the lodge along a mountain track built of ancient larch planks and which winds its way for 12 Km (7½ miles) through an imposing Andean-Patagonian forest into the foothills. 7 Km (4 miles) along this route we will stop at a huge Larch (estimated to be 4000 years old) and known by the locals as “El Tata” (Granddad) and thought to be the oldest one in the area. After a short walk we will get to the Laguna Reflejos (Reflections lagoon), a spectacular mountain lake surrounded by woods and mountainous terrain, where we will board a raft to reach the hotel. We will settle in and then be given a talk on the possible excursions by a specialized guide. Overnight at the lodge in the park. (D)

We will climb from 800m to 1500m (2600 to 4900 feet) along a natural trail through larch trees and other local flora. Local birds including Woodpeckers and humming birds will add to the fascination of our trek. Once at the top we will have a wonderful view of the Reloncaví Seno and of the Osorno, Calbuco, Yates, Puntiagudo, Tronador and Corcovado Volcanoes and Lake Llanquihue. Snack on the summit . After a rest we will leave on horse back to an area known as El Rodado. During this 3 hour ride we will pass through the evergreen woods, see how the local wooden tiles are made and also get a spectacular view of the Reloncaví Seno. Overnight at the lodge in the park. (B, L, D)
