From Ushuaia we proceed south across the Drake Passage to the South Shetland Islands and then to the north of the Antarctic Peninsula. Sailing through the Antarctic Sound, where tabular icebergs drifting out of the Weddell Sea are frequently seen, around Dundee Island, named for the Scottish whalers, we enter the Weddell Sea discovered by James Weddell in 1822. From Ushuaia we proceed south across the Drake Passage to the Antarctic Peninsula.
