Botswana Adventure - 14D/13N

The Camping Concept

  • Kiboko Vehicles - Custom built Mercedes Benz and Toyota vehicles designed for African conditions with large, tinted windows that slide vertically for superior game viewing and photography; fowrard-facing, high-back seats; plug ports for battery charging; frige / coolbox for client drink;, storage compartment for food and provisions; water tank; storage compartments for camping equipment; luggage compartment; and a freezer for food.
  • Food and Drinks - All meals are prepared by the guide & assistant cook. Breakfast consists of: cereals, toast, jams, tea, coffee, and milk. Lunch is usually a “cold picnic” with the main meal being enjoyed in the evening with a sit down dinner at a lantern lit table. Drinks and mineral water are not included, but may be purchased from a bottle store or supermarket and stored in the cooler box.
  • Camping Equipment - Large, comfortable tents accomodating 2 people are provided. Each tent is insect proof and equipped with a build-in ground cover for insulation. Each passenger is provided with a 6cm thick foam matress and a comfortable safari folding chair. Clients are requested to bring their own small pillow and sleeping bag.
  • Botswana Park Excursions - 4×4 open sided game viewing vehicles are used on excursions into the National Parks of Botswana. Entrance and park fees are included and excursions are conducted by a professional, local Botswana registered guide.
  • Kiboko Guides & Assistants - 2 crew accompany every tour with the guide & assistant / cook in charge of all meals. These leaders are selected for their experience of the African bush, thus ensuring an enjoyable and successful travel experience. Guides are full time employees of the company. Safaris are conducted in English, translators are available upon request.

    Details: Participation Safari. Accommodation: 1 night accommodated, 12 nights camping. Meals: All meals when camping except 1 lunch and 1 dinner in Livingstone/ Victoria Falls. Group Size: 4-16 participants. Sleeping Bag Hire: must be booked in advance. Transfers: One night pre-tour accommodation in Johannesburg and return airport transfers may be pre-booked.

    ITINERARY

    • DAY 1: JOHANNESBURG - KALAHARI DESERT - We depart at 07h30 from our hotel in Johannesburg and travel through the Central Kalahari Desert. Overnight Kang Ultra Stop Chalets (or similar) (Accommodated - L, D).
    • DAY 2: KALAHARI (BUSHMAN EXPERIENCE) - We set up camp at a Bushmen village in the Kalahari. The project is owned and run by the local Bushmen community with all proceeds directly benefiting the community. A 1 hour guided bush walk is undertaken, with a local guide explaining and showing us the many uses of the surrounding environment. (Camping - B, L, D).
    • DAY 3: MAUN - Arriving in Maun – the ‘gateway’ to the Okavango Delta – we have the option of a scenic flight over the Okavango Delta (own expense). The evening is spent relaxing around the campfire and preparing for our 4×4 excursion into Moremi the following morning. (Camping - B, L, D).
    • DAY 4/ 5: OKAVANGO AREA OF MOREMI WILDLIFE RESERVE - Entering Moremi Wildlife Reserve, we explore the area on early morning and late afternoon game drives in open 4×4 vehicles. A day is spent exploring the channels of the Okavango Delta by mokoro. We lunch on an island in the delta and enjoy a game walk (subject to the water level of the delta). (Camping - B, L, D).
    • DAY 6/ 7: KHWAI AREA OF MOREMI WILDLIFE RESERVE - The Khwai area is a pure wilderness area of great beauty, with rich green vegetation, palm trees, teeming with birdlife and a vast population of wild animals. We enjoy early morning and late afternoon game drives exploring the reserve in open 4×4 safari vehicles. (Camping - B, L, D).
    • DAY 8: MOREMI – MAUN – PLANET BAOBAB - An early morning game drive is enjoyed as we leave Moremi, returning to Maun in time for lunch. After lunch we drive to Planet Baobab where camp is set up among the giant Baobab trees. (Camping - B, L, D).

    • DAY 9/ 10: LIVINGSTONE/ VICTORIA FALLS “MOSI-OA-TUNYA” - THE SMOKE THAT THUNDERS - We travel across the Zambian border to view Victoria Falls - one of the most spectacular sights in Africa. Days are spent at leisure to browse the local markets, to experience the many optional activities on offer in the adrenaline capital of Africa including white water rafting, bungi jumping, microlighting/ airplane or helicopter over the Falls, rhino walks, elephant back safaris etc. and to visit the Falls (own expense). (Camping - all meals excluding 1 lunch & 1 dinner).
    • DAY 11: CHOBE RIVER - KASANE - Camp is set up on the banks of the Chobe River. Chobe is famous for its beautiful scenery, magnificent sunsets and abundance of wildlife and birdlife. Sunset is enjoyed on a relaxing game viewing boat cruise on the Chobe River. (Camping - B, L, D).
    • DAY 12: KHAMA RHINO SANCTUARY - Making our way South through Botswana we
      arrive at Khama Rhino Sanctuary mid afternoon. The following morning is free for optional excursions such as Rhino or Giraffe tracking, game drives, nature walks (own expense). (Camping - B, L, D).
    • DAY 13: LIMPOPO AREA - Crossing the border into South Africa, we install our camp for the last night in the scenic Limpopo Province. Optional game viewing night drive is available (own expense). (Camping - B, L, D).
    • DAY 14: JOHANNESBURG - We travel via the ‘Jacaranda City’ of Pretoria, the administrative capital of South
      Africa and home of the famous Union Buildings, ending at +-16h00. (B, L).
