Campania for Connoisseurs
Complex and contradictory, yet vivacious and visually stunning, Campania, can be as incomprehensible and unpredictable as the great volcano that looms over its beloved capital, Naples, a region known for the wonder of its Costiera Amalfitana (Almafi Coast) with its unique sea panoramas and fragrant lemons trees. Among the most beautiful areas in Italy, Amalfi is truly supreme.
Campania is also known world-wide for the excavations in Pompei, revealing a city destroyed, yet frozen in time by the eruption of Mount Vesuvius. The exclusive beauty of the island of Capri beckons a multitude of visitors, offering glorious landscapes, ancient ruins and the sweet taste of an almond and chocolate cake. The largest island in the Bay of Naples is Ischia. Rich in thermal parks, it is also famous for its fish specialties and a rabbit dish prepared in the ischitana style. A robust city, Naples possesses a lovely charm, with its rich culture and impressive museums.
Driving in Naples is incredible because of the traffic, however, you can relax at a pastry shop and enjoy the extraordinary sfogliatella (a sweet pastry filled with a cream or fruit), or a babà (a typical Neapolitan cake shaped like a mushroom, saturated in rum or syrup). Campania also offers the lush, green Irpinia, where vineyards nurture the precious Taurasi, and the ancient city Paestum, whose archaeological finds survive along side its excellent dairies producing mozzarella di bufala(a cheese from buffalo milk). Another excellent cheese is provolone del Monaco (a cheese from cow’s milk of the monks) produced in the area behind the Costiera Amalfitana. There is, also of course, the original pizza, invented in Naples and known throughout the world.
Highlights
- Taurasi is a wine with a strong personality and a distinct identity. Taurasi DOCG has been called “the Barolo of the South” due to its size and ability to age.
- The true mozzarella from Campania is produced with buffalo milk. It is a fresh, consistent, yet soft cheese, with a distinct taste. It is available in numerous regional dairies where it is produced via ancient wisdom and modern technology.
- The costiera amalfitana (the Almafi Coast) remains in the hearts of all visitors. In addition to Almafi with its imposing cathedral, this beautiful region has much to offer: Ravello, accentuated by its extraordinary villas, the famous Positano, basking near the sea, and Vietri, with its multi-colored ceramics.

Grand Tour of Campania (6 days)
Start in Naples, a spectacularly chaotic city of bustling streets and picturesque squares on one of the most famous gulfs in the world, dominated by Mount Vesuvius. The savory flavors of the elaborate Neapolitan kitchen, including pizza and delicious pastries will certainly satisfy the most discriminating palates. Boat to Ischia, known for its miraculous thermal waters and great seafood, before climbing Mount Vesuvius, an active volcano with spectacular panoramas and visiting ancient Pompeii. The archaeological excavations reveal a refined, vivacious civilization characterized by an expansive and beautiful center, shops and elegant villas, public places and temples. Then its is on to the Amalfi Coast, one of the most famous shoreline dotted with beautiful sites. Check the legendary shops of Positano, visit the liquor laboratories where prized lemons are made into sweet limoncello in Amalfi, the multi-colored ceramics laboratories in Vietri or relax looking out at breathtaking panoramas in Ravello. Taste true Mozzarella di bufala in Paestum along with a visit of the magnificent Greek temples in one of the richest and most important archaeological areas of the Magna Graecia civilization. Finally to Irpinia, able to surprise the gourmet with its high quality products such as wonderful cheeses, excellent wine, and local chestnuts. The itinerary is highly customizable and expandable both as a self-drive or chauffeur-driven program!
