IMPORTANT NOTE: Although we book the Lake Crossing between Chile and Argentina (or viceversa) even as just a crossing (with a $ 20 fee for the booking over cost of ticket), our recommendation for your total enjoyment is staying 2 nights in Puerto Montt or Puerto Varas, 1 night in Peulla (2 days crossing) and 2 nights in Bariloche (or vice versa).

Just few men have been able to project their vision to the future. Ricardo Schutz was one of them. He, on mule back, guided the first European Tourist group through an Andean route that linked Bariloche (on Argentinean side) and Peulla (on the Chilean side. This brand new adventure was spread out quickly and later on it would be known abroad. Since this heroic expedition, made in 1913, we have been given the world a legacy. It has kept on being in use to allow the new generations to enjoy it. Nowadays, this tour is known as "Cruce de Lagos" (Lake Crossing). Ricardo Roth was also one of the main sponsors for the proposal to convert Vicente Perez Rosales into a National Park.

The trip may be started at Puerto Montt or Bariloche cities, any time of the year, no matter the weather, as since the beginning it has never been interrupted. We suggest you to let the nature of the zone delight you, staying at Peulla or Puerto Blest, where you shall find warm hotels, tip-top attention and attractive excursions at your wishes. The Lake Crossing between Puerto Montt and Bariloche and vice versa can be interrupted for more than one night in either direction, continuing the following day at the scheduled time. The Lake Crossing does not operate on Sundays and on January 1st, May 1st, November 29th and December 25th.
