Danube Bike Trail in 10 days: Passau to Vienna - 10D/9N

This tour offers you the opportunity to learn everything about the Danube, with its facets. We selected the daily cycle tours in such a way that your bike trip will last 3 hours maximum. You have sufficient time to enjoy the cultural and scenic high points of the tour.

Accomodations: comfort rooms in hotels and typical inns, 3- to 4-star

Includes:9 nights in rooms with private facilities and breakfast or half-board supplement (8x dinner - in Vienna breakfast only); Daily luggage transfer from hotel to hotel (1 suitcase per person / max 20kg); Welcome drink upon your arrival to hotel in Passau; 2 ferry rides on the Danube, incl. bike; Entrances: City Theater Grein, a ride on the Viennese Risenrad; 1 bottle Grüner Veltliner per room; Train ride Krems - Vienna (incl. bike); Train ride Vienna - Passau (transfer of own bikes not included); Travel documents for each room; 1 handlebar bag for free; Service Hotline (also on weekends)

Bike Rental: 7- or 21-gear KTM unisex bike, incl. panniers. For children: seats, child trailer, trailer bikes, children’s bike. ELECTRIC POWERED BICYCLE: You have the option of an electric motor to do some of the work for you. Our “Flyers” (a Swiss product) increase you pedalling power 3-fold. This way, bikers with different athletic conditions can book a bike tour togehter.

Itinerary

  • Day 1: Arrival to Passau
    Independent arrival. The handing over of the travel documents follows. The rest of the day is at your disposal. Passau thrives on its interesting history and its lively presence. The city offers a wide range of historic points of interest.
  • Day 2: Passau - St. Ägidi / Engelhartszell (approx. 27km / 17 miles)
    In the morning you get your bike and attend the informational meeting. Subsequently, you leave the three-river city and cycle to the upper Danube valley, passing Obernzell to Engelhartszell. Make sure to visit the Trappisten Monastery in Engelhartszell, and taste the famous liqueurs.
  • Day 3: St. Ägidi / Engelhartszell - Aschach / Eferding (approx. 45km / 28 miles)
    You travel on the northern Danube bank along to the unique and impressive Schlögener Schlinge, and then take a ferry to the southern bank. Tip: Move up to the Schlögener view. You will certainly not forget the wonderful scenery! Ride into the pictoral Danube market in Aschach or further into Eferding.
  • Day 4: Aschach / Eferding - Linz (approx. 30km / 19 miles)
    After breakfast, you cycle over Wihering and Ottensheim into the state capital of upper Austria, Linz. On the one side there are idyllic lanes and the main square and on the other side, there are the contemporary art and the virtural worlds in the museums in Linz.
  • Day 5: Linz - St. Florian - Mauthausen / Enns (approx. 26km / 16 miles)
    Past the hydro power station Abwinden/Asten to St. Florian, there is time to visit the beautiful Baroque Monastery. Now you cycle to the oldest city of Austria, Enns. Visit the city square, with the 60-meter city tower from the 16th centruy. The museum Lauriacum houses the city’s archaeological collection and is located in the main square.
  • Day 6: Mauthausen / Enns - Grein / Bad Kreuzen (approx. 36-42km / 22-26 miles)
    You cross the Danube by ferry to Mauthausen. You continue along the Danube through Naarn and Perg to Mitterkirchen. In this village you can find a Celt-Village and an open air museum. The bike tour leads you through the Strudengau, into the baroque small town Grein, today’s goal city. Subsequently, you visit the oldest city theater of Austria.
  • Day 7: Grein / Bad Kreuzen - Marbach / Persenbeug (approx. 31-21km / 20-13 miles)
    Today you cycle through the Strudengau. On the south bank you pass St. Nikola and Sarmingstein. In Persenbeug, you enter the Nibelungengau. Tip: if you still have time, you should cycle to Maria Taferl, into the famous place of pilgrimage (approx. 10km bike tour).
  • Day 8: Marbach / Persenbeug - Wachau (approx. 35-45km / 22-28 miles)
    This day takes you from Marbach to Pöchlam, where you can see the Nibelungen monument. You cycle into the famous Wachau and Melk shortly after. You can admire the splendid Benedictine Monastery of Melk already from a distance. Afterwards you cycle through the vineyards; you reach Spitz, at the foot of the 1000-bucket mountain. Your bike tour ends in the surroundings of Spitz.
  • Day 9: Wachau - Vienna (approx. 19km / 12 mile bike tour to Krems and 79km / 50 mile train ride to Vienna)
    You cycle through the small wine town Weissenk-richen and Dürnstein, well known for their unusual church and castle.
    Subsequently, you ride into the 1000 year-old wine city. Afterwards, a train takes you to vienna. Experience the Danube metropolis and Waltz city, the metropolitan city with flair. After your check-in in Vienna, take your time to visit the famous admire Riesenrad.
  • Day 10: Departure
    Train or bus ride (additional charge) to Passau or extended stay in Vienna.
