Explore this city with the bright-yellow Linz city express and ride the steepest mountain railway of Europe from the year 1898 on the Pöstling Mountain. The bike trip continues through the wild Strudengau. In Grein the oldest city theater of Austria awaits you. The Wachau is a landscape with vineyards and apricot trees, small towns, and mysterious castles. Don’t forget to taste a glass of the well known Austrian wine. At the crowning conclustion of this cycle tour, you discover the world metropolis, Vienna, with its many attractions. Do not forget the cozy Viennese coffee houses and wine taverns!

The Danube bike path - the grandfather of all bike paths: This path through the Danube valley goes gently downhill the whole way, and usually has a helpful tailwind. This is a recommended route for children.

This way, bikers with different athletic conditions can book a bike tour together.

Itinerary

  • Day 1: Linz - Individual arrival to Linz. Unsupervised parking available for free of charge. Explore the city on your own first. Go for a ride with the Linz city-express (strolling course city tour) or visit one of the beer gardens or wine taverns.
  • Day 2: Linz - Grein / Surroundings (approx. 60km / 38 miles) - Passing by the beautiful Mostviertel, you cycle through the fascinating landscape of the Strudengau in the baroque small town of Grein.
  • Day 3: Grein / Surroundings - Melk / Surroundings (approx. 51km / 32 miles) - You cycle through the impressive landscapes of the wild Strundengau and the Nibelungengau into the Wachau a UNESCO World Heritage Region.
  • Day 4: Melk / Surroundings - Vienna (approx. 40km / 25 miles to Krems, then take the train to Vienna) - Through the beautiful landscape of the viticulture region, Wachau, you follow the Danube into the 1000 year-old wine city of Krems. From here you go for a comfortable train ride to Vienna.
  • Day 5: Vienna - Vienna - Linz by train or extended stay in Vienna
