French
Guiana located between Suriname and Brazil and roughly 1/5 the size of
France, is set between the Caribbean and the Amazon. This ideal
geographical situation has fostered a fabulous biodiversity reflected in
its many nature zones. It is here that the visitor may have the
privilege of observing a great many protected species in carefully
preserved areas.
Through the ages, Guyana has also been a land of refuge and enslavement, a
land of exploration, of punishment and of social progress which has
added to the local native cultures. This contrasted history has left its
traces at every level with communities integrated into the native, yet
with their own traditions and culture.
From encounters with authentic cultures to the discovery of Amazonian
animals in the wildlife reserve, from watching the birth of Leatherback
Turtles to spotting the vapor trail of an Ariane rocket, from the most
adventurous to the most relaxed, French Guiana offers a range of
activities that will delight all visitors.
