Get a glimpse of several of the most well-known Agean Sea locations such as Cairo, Egypt; Ashdod (Jerusalem-Bethlehem) Holy Land; Cyprus; Antalya, Turkey; Santorini, Greece; and Mykonos, Greece in this 7-day cruise of 3 continents and 5 countries.
Cairo, Egypt: Cairo, the capital of Egypt and one of the most fascinating cities in the world, is an ever-changing kaleidoscope of sights and sounds. It is the melting pot of all fascinating elements of Africa and the Orient with the sophistication of Europe, making old and new coexist harmoniously. The Ancient Egyptians built the Pyramids as tombs to preserve the bodies of heir dead kings because they believed in their resurrection and immortality. The Pyramids of Giza are the most famous of Egypt’s sights but are only a small part. The three great Fourth Dynasty pyramids of Giza, their surrounding tombs, the Sphinx and the step pyramids at Saqqara are only a few of a series which stretch out over a distance of 70 km as far as El Fayyum.
Antalya, Turkey: Although established by the King of Pergamum as far back as in the 2nd century B.C., until recently Antalya remained a small city. Tourism made Antalya one of the largest and most beautiful spots of interest, with sandy beaches extending along the bays on each side. The city has an Archeological Museum and a place of interest called “Kaleici”, meaning “inner castle” where original facades of houses were preserved, with interdiction to construct.
Santorini: Visitors of Santorini discover, with pleasant surprise, that even today tradition is preserved in Santorini at its small village communities. Religious festivals called ‘ayiomnisia’, wedding celebrations with traditional customs and local musical instruments that accompany the procedures of a wedding ceremony, local food such us split peas and tomato balls, desserts like ‘melitinia’ (Easter sweets) and ‘koufeto’ (wedding sweet), animals that still help both with agricultural work i.e. ploughing and threshing and transportation, houses decorated with old furniture, utensils, old handmade embroidery, old paintings and photographs, canava wineries where grapes are crushed and wine is produced by the viticulturists themselves…these are just some of the aspects of tradition that is so alive in Santorini.
Mykonos: Archaeological finds indicate that the Ionians settled on Mykonos in the early part of the 11th century BC. More recent discoveries have uncovered remnants in Ftelia beach from the Neolithic Kares tribe dating back to as far as 3000 BC. Today, Mykonos is one of the world’s most cosmopolitan islands, having become increasingly popular especially during the last 50 years due to the numerous international jet set visitors that spend their holidays on the island. It is widely known for its extremely rich, diverse and often intense nightlife featured by a vast number of bars and nightclubs. Mykonos is also distinctive for its sandy beaches, offering everything from crystal-clear waters and windsurfing potential.
