A more complete classical program to discover Athens and the Peloponnese with a tour of the most important ancient sites: Mycenae, Epidaurus, Nafplio, Olympia and Delphi plus a short stay at Kalambaka to see famous Meteora. Then a cruise of the Greek islands including Turkey and Patmos, famous for the Monastery and the Grotto of St. John. Greece, where democracy was born more than 2,500 years ago, is the cradle of Western thought. Greece also has given the world a love of beauty expressed through what has become civilization’s most widely accepted and enduring art forms. Athens is the wellspring of Western civilization, where the Parthenon crowns the Acropolis, it took its name from the goddess Athena, the goddess of wisdom and knowledge: this is where democracy was born. Ephesus maybe one of the best-preserved classical city on the Mediterranean and one of the seven wonders of the ancient world. Legend has it that the Virgin Mary, accompanied by St. Paul, came to Ephesus at the end of her life, circa 37-45 AD. In 1967 Pope Paul VI. visited the site, where a chapel now stands, and confirmed the authenticity of the legend. The Basilica of St. John is also located near Ephesus and it is said that he lived here the last years of his life and, after his death, a shrine was located over his grave.
