Looking for the Altiplanic Aymara Communities - 4D/3N
The Anymara have existed in the Andes for over 2000 years. The region where they are now located, the Altiplano, was conquered by the Incas under Huayna Capac. It is most likely the Inca had a strong influence over the Anymara for some time. The architecture for which the Inca are noew known is modeled after the Anyara style. The arrival of the Spanish scatered the various tribes as far north as central Peru. The so called “secret language of the Incas” is actually a form of Aymara. The Anymara continue to use traditional forms of medicinal treatment today, as well as participating in ritual offerings to their sun god Inti. The current president of Bolivia, Evo Morales, is of the Anymara nationality.

Itinerary
- DAY 01 ARICA - Transfer from Arica`s Airport to hotel. Free afternoon to enjoy the city.
- DAY 02 ARICA-SOCOROMA-LAGO CHUNGARÁ-PUTRE - Travel across Lluta Valley, visit to Rosario´s petroglyphs and the town of Poconchile. There are candelabra cactus (Browningia Candelaris) in Quebrada Cardones. Pukará de Copaquilla, pre Inca defensive construction, is located in the highest point of the town with the same name. Trekking to Socoroma, Aymara town, there it´s possible to appreciate oregano, maize and potatoes cultivations in ancient terraces. Visit to Lauca Park, Parinacota, Aymara ceremony town and Chungará lake. Arrival to Putre, recommended to become acclimatized to height. (B,BL)
- DAY 03 PUTRE-GUALLATIRI-SALAR DE SURIRE-COLCHANE - Departure visit three protected areas: Lauca National Park, Reserva Nacional Las Vicuñas and Surire Salt Flat Natural Monument, all of them with a great variety of wild animals like: rheas, vicunas and flamingos. Visit to Aymara stone
villages: Ancuta, Guallatire, Viluvio, located hillside of Andean volcanoes like : Guallatire with its constant fumaroles. Departure to Surire, where flamingos and other Andean birds live, picnic in Salar. Then trip to Colchane among bofedals and queñoas, native trees adapted to the dry Altiplanic cold, passing through Mucomucone, Vilacollo, Arabila, Enquelga, villages stopped in the time, dedicated to llamas and alpacas` breeding and to beautiful traditional weaves. Arrival to Colchane and overnight in a simple residence with shared bath. (B,BL,D) - DAY 04 COLCHANE-IQUIQUE - Excursion to Iquique. The fall begins leaving the mountain range behind. Panoramic view of Chuzmiza, town located in a deep gully in the Andean foothills, it has field terraces. In a wide gully in the middle of the desert is located San Lorenzo de Tarapacá, ancient supplier for people who crossed the desert. Visit to Unita hill to see the Giant of Atacama. Box lunch. Arrival to Iquique and transfer to airport. (B,BL)
