  Information
Madagascar, the world's fourth largest island is located between the continents of Asia and Africa. It is an island full of contrast and mystery, an island with thousand faces, an unforgettable country. It's breathtaking scenery, unique fauna and flora, traditional crafts and folklore ensure that Madagascar stays forever engraved in the minds of its visitors.

Here you will find the strangest life-forms, saved by insularity in a real eco-tourism paradise. Crossed by the Tropic of Capricorn in its southern part, Madagascar spreads over nearly 1580 km from north to south and 580 km from east to west. Madagascar has roughly 5000 km of coast washed in the east by the Indian Ocean and in the west by the Mozambic Channel. With its 587000km square, Madagascar is the fourth biggest island in the world , a continent-island including a wide variety of relief and micro-climates, and of course an astonishing diversity of the flora and the fauna with a high rate of endemism.

Discover the rare sense of hospitality, the innate sense of conviviality and tolerance of the Malagasy people. The Malagasy population had been formed by successive waves since the fifth century, first Malayo-Polynesian, then Arab and African. Several of the ethnic groups which exist still bring their first origins traces. The cultural diversity and richness are for that reason remarkable. Actually there are nearly 14 millions of inhabitants with legendary kindness and sense of hospitality. Many Malagasy peoples are Christian but in some regions Islam is strongly practiced; and generally the worship of ancestors takes an important place with the Malagasy. The main language is Malagasy with French as the second official language. The main activity is agriculture, with rice in the first place, then other food crops like cassava and sweet corn. Also important for export are vanilla, coffee, clove, cacao, etc.

The main areas of the islands are:

THE EAST: A narrow coastal plain with a succession of lagoons. It is the domain of tropical forest, with some portions still unexplored and others in savannah form where the famous traveler tree " Ravenala " developed. Coffee, clove, vanilla, pepper, tropical fruits plantations are found in this region.

THE CENTRE or the Highlands: the domain of granite mountains and laterite plateaus, where plains, small valley, sometimes hillsides are occupied by rice paddies. The center is the most humanized area of the island.

ANTANANARIVO (or Tana for regular visitors) the capital, dominated by the Queen' s palace, surrounded by thousands of hectares of rice fields , is situated at 1250 m of altitude..
