M.S. Andrea Cruise: Trade Routes of the Aegean & Adriatic - Greece, Albania, Croatia & Italy 8D/7N

CroatiaExplore the Aegean, Ionian and Adriatic Seas in the wake of the Romans, Greeks, Venetians and Ottomans aboard the Andrea. This week-long sojourn is offered in late September, when the tourist crowds have departed and when the temperatures are moderate and skies sunny. Embark in sunny Rhodes with its reminders of domination by the Knights of St. John. As the Andrea travels west, pause on the island of Crete and in Piraeus where there is nearly a full day for exploring the classical wonders of nearby Athens. Most striking are the ruins on the rock of the Acropolis, perched hundreds of feet above the city, which you will have the opportunity to explore. From here, continue your journey through the man-made Corinth Canal which, at only 81 feet wide, cannot be traversed by many of the larger cruise ships. From Itea, travel overland to Delphi, visited by ancient pilgrims seeking divine direction. Walk the Sacred Way, lined with monuments and offerings to the Temple of Apollo. Leaving Greek waters, the Andrea stops in Albania for a look at another Greco-Roman ruin and UNESCO World Heritage Site, Butrint. Continuing along the Adriatic coast, you will have a full day in the medieval walled city of Dubrovnik, one of the true gems in this part of the world. A walking tour permits a good overview of the old town and its many interesting historic structures, shops and cafés. Depart in the early evening for a cruise through the many islands of the Kornati Archipelago. Conclude your adventure in Venice, where a full day is available for excursions or pursuing your own interests.
