M.S. Andrea Cruise: Western Mediterranean & Iberian Peninsula - Spain, Portugal, Corsica, Sicily & Malta - 9D/8N

PortugalThese two cultural cruises—one in late May and the other in early September—are scheduled during exceptional times of the year to explore Portugal, Spain’s sunny southern coast and the islands of the Mediterranean. Depending on your departure, you will embark and disembark in different ports, but both programs include Bonifacio at the southern tip of Corsica; Mahón, a key Balearic Island naval port during the heyday of the British Empire; sunny Valencia, Spain’s third-largest city; and Motril, from where you easily can visit the Moorish masterpiece, Alhambra, in Granada. Both of these adventures also include Cadiz, port city for the Andalusian cultural center of Seville; Lisbon, the hilly capital of Portugal; and Oporto, Portugal’s commercial center and hub of the world’s port wine industry. As the Andrea travels along the Mediterranean coastline and between sun-drenched islands, you’ll be following the sea lanes of Roman galleys, Moorish battleships, Spanish and Portuguese treasure ships and British 18th-century men-o’-war. Discover the unique nature of these places, where the colonizing influences of bygone cultures—prehistoric, Greek, Roman, Norman and Saracen—are vibrantly alive in the architecture, cuisine and customs of the present. In many places, the Andrea docks near the historic center of town, enabling you to explore on your own, or follow an experienced guide on a walking tour. In other locations—such as Motril and Cadiz—optional sightseeing excursions will take you to nearby cities such as Granada and Seville, respectively.
