Rwanda is the "land of a thousand hills," and home to rare mountain gorillas. The Volcanoes National Park has reopened, and once again one can visit the gentle giants Dian Fossey made famous.

The mountain gorillas have miraculously survived the war in Rwanda, they actually thrived during that time, in spite of a civil war that brought poachers, settlers and rebel soldiers into their refuge. Perhaps the lack of tourism helped them? It is a thought to ponder before visiting Rwanda!
