The après ski has also something for everyone, from a quiet drink and a meal after a long day on the slopes or lively bars and nightclubs into the early hours.
Innsbruck is the 800 year-old capital city of the Tyrol region of Austria. Tyrol is known for its skiing as well as the charm of the Alpine mountains, small rustic villages, medieval country churches and entertainment. As the only major city in the Alps, Innsbruck has become a favorite destination for tourists. Emperor Maximilian I set up court in Innsbruck’s Imperial Palace (Hofburg) to be close to his favorite hobbies: mountain climbing, fishing, and hunting. The landmark of the city, the Golden Roof, was one of the many mementos left by the emperor. A magnificent view of the city and its surrounding mountains can be seen from the well-preserved center of the old town, specifically a street named after its benefactress, Empress Maria Thresea. Innsubruck was the location of the first Winter Olypmics in 1964; and hosted the games a second time in 1976. It has earned a reputation for being the capital city of the Alps and of winter sports. Countless opportunities to ski the world’s most beautiful slopes present themselves in Innsbruck’s immediate vicinity.
