Ski Zermatt

Zermatt, in the shadow of the Matterhorn has the highest all year round skiing area of the Alps. Horse drawn sleighs and carriages are the only means of transport. This world without motor vehicles is the ideal resort for a peaceful holiday. Anyone with some experience of skiing will be thrilled by the variety of pistes from beautifully smooth blue runs to steep mogul-fields. Zermatt, with its wind-protected southern location, embraces three skiing areas which enjoy superb snow conditions and the longest skiing season in the Alps. The 245km of ski runs include slopes ranging from the simplest to the most challenging. Easy access is provided by an extensive network of 74 transport facilities, with high-capacity cableways, mountain railways and ski-lifts (incl. Cervinia, Italy) capable of conveying up to 75,180 passengers an hour.

Located in southern Switzerland at an altitude of 1′600 meters and just a few hours from the international airports of Zurich, Geneva and Milano. Zermatt is easily accessible from western, northern or southern Europe. International rail connections link up to Brig with the modern narrow-gauge Zermatt railway, which takes only 90 minutes to climb through the romantic, rugged Visp Valley. Motorists can drive as far as Täsch, from where trains (shuttle trains run every 20 minutes) and minibus taxis operate a shuttle service for the remaining 4.8 km / 3 miles to Zermatt. Parking facilities are available in Täsch, as well as in Visp for motorists wishing to continue by rail. Zermatt has a heliport, which is operated by Air Zermatt.
