VERBIER
Verbier
offers one of Switzerland's largest and best ski areas,
greatly located on a sunny plateau although a little
out-moded. The charming and traditional village lies at
1500m with a vast ski area covering over 220 miles of
piste with more than 100 lifts and extending up to
3,300m with skiing all year round on the Mont Fort
glacier. Over the last few years it has been trying to
improve its grooming, snowmaking, ski school and lifts -
most recently with the overdue replacement of the Tortin
gondola, although major complaints remain.
Verbier would seem at first sight to rank alongside the
French mega-resorts such as Courchevel for slope skiers,
too. But it does not as the Four Valleys is an
inconveniently sprawling affair, while Verbier's local
slopes are surprisingly confined. Skiing is mainly on
tree-lined runs, in large "bowls" between mountains and
on the Mont-Fort glacier. The 400k slopes are best
appreciated by fearless intermediates or the
experienced. Off-pistes are a dream and particularly
adapted to snowboarders who enjoy surfing through empty
fields of virgin snow.

Clients holding a Swiss
transfer ticket for transportation within Switzerland may
take any train to their destination. Vantage Adventures is
not allowed to sell these tickets and you can obtain them
directly from the Swiss rail office. The
railway station in Zurich is underneath the airport. The
transfer ticket is valid for round trip transfer from
Zurich or Geneva airports to any destination in
Switzerland. Rate per person for round trip transfer by
train from Zurich/Geneva airports is:
