True North expedition cruise yacht
One of Australia’s newest, purpose-built expedition cruise yachts, True North, is superbly equipped for adventure-cruises and even carries its own helicopter! The True North allows passengers to experience wilderness in surroundings more akin to one of the world’s most exclusive hotels! Passengers are able to take advantage of a number of lavish vantage points and the ship’s naturalist presents interpretative information on 2 huge plasma screens. Multiple expedition boats allow passengers to do “what they want, when they want” and to add yet another dimension to the adventure.
Signature meals include freshly caught barramundi - a revered sport fish possibly caught with your very own hands! Giant black-lip oysters (which you almost certainly helped to collect!) served to your liking. Our ‘heli-picnics’ are an unforgettable way to enjoy a wide variety of seafood including shrimp, squid, baked fish, pearl meat and smoked salmon. For those who prefer, there are also plenty of meat dishes including the famous “Kimberley Rib” and exquisite lamb racks. And, fresh vegetables and garden salads are never in short supply!
Even today the Kimberley remains as one of the world’s truly unique wilderness areas - a wild and beautiful panorama of rugged mountain ranges, spectacular gorges and majestic waterfalls. An ancient custodian of unexplained cave paintings that predate traditional Aboriginal rock art. A land of contrast where huge tides expose living reef systems right before your very eyes! An incredibly diverse land inhabited by extraordinary flora and fauna – bastions of rainforest, immense mangrove communities and irreplaceable plant species of countless genera, birds of every imaginable colour, intriguing marsupials and bizarre amphibians, monster fish with renown fighting ability and even more celebrated eating quality, and, not forgetting the infamous crocodile!
This year Papua New Guinea is also fatured as a cruise detination! We will spend the first day or so cruising the Island Province - classic south pacific vista, snorkeling, fishing and cultural activities before returning to the main island to experience the beautiful lagoon areas of Tufi. After an overnight cruise - we will explore the south coast of New Britain - lots of big river systems here, dense jungle experiences, exposure to local living with black bass and barramundi fishing a highlight! We overnight at Duke of York island - more snorkeling/diving and local village experiences. Arrangements at Rabaul will include helicopter flights over the active volcano and the devastated town site. We will also visit World War II sites and other local attractions before rejoining our aircraft for a short flight to Madang. Overnight in the best resort in Papua New Guinea - it is really quite spectacular, with the waves lapping under your verandah!
